ITINERARY
This journey takes you to the unknown treasures of Greece: from the remote villages of the Pindus Mountains to the spectacular rock-hewn monasteries of Meteora and the dreamlike beaches of Lefkas. A route for explorers who love nature, history and Mediterranean hospitality.
After arriving in Aktio/Preveza, the route takes us along the Amvrakischen Golf into the remote mountain world of East Tzoumerka. The Ruista Tzoumerkon Resort Hotel is our retreat, where we enjoy the first evening with regional specialties.
The next day, we will enter the forests of Theodoriana, a hiker’s paradise with crystal-clear waterfalls and ancient paths. We will visit the medieval Red Church, a 13th-century Byzantine jewel.
We reach Meteora via picturesque mountain villages such as Pyli and Kalampaka – a landscape of monumental rock formations, on which centuries-old monasteries are enthroned. After a wine tasting at the Meteoro Winery, we will let the evening come to a close at the Mirabiis Boutique Hotel.
The next morning, we delve into the spiritual world of the famous Meteora monasteries. From Varlaam to Agia Triada, we experience a mixture of Byzantine architecture and breathtaking views. We enjoy dinner at the Gardenia tavern, under the rugged rocks of Kastraki.
Our journey continues to West Tzoumerka with a stopover in Metsovo, a charming mountain village with an Alpine feel. A highlight is a visit to the ancient theater of Dodoni, one of the oldest oracles in Greece. High up at 1,100 meters lies our domicile, the Orizontes Resort Hotel.
The next day, we discover the traditional stone villages of Kalarytes and Syrrako, characterized by centuries-old architecture. A visit to the spectacular monastery of Kipina, built into a rock face, rounds off the experience. In a rustic tavern, we enjoy Epirus’ famous cuisine – down-to-earth, hearty and authentic.
We leave the mountains and travel to Lefkas, with a stop in Arta and the Koronisia nature reserve. We enjoy fresh fish by the water with a view of the Amvrakic Gulf.
Lefkas delights with turquoise-blue bays, steep cliffs and idyllic villages. We hike through the mountainous landscape of Englouvi or Karya before ending the evening in a traditional tavern. The last day is dedicated to the sea – whether it’s relaxing on the beaches of Porto Katsiki or a boat tour along the coast. We celebrate the farewell evening in the rustic restaurant Takis in Katouna.
