A sailing adventure through untouched nature and history.
Route: Preveza – Meganissi – Kefalonia – Ithaca – Kalamos – Lefkas – Preveza
Duration: 1 week – approx. 130 nautical miles
This sailing trip takes us through the enchanting island world of the southern Ionian Sea. We discover turquoise bays, charming fishing villages and the historical traces of Odysseus. Three overnight stays in selected hotels offer additional comfort and the opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful places in the region even more intensively.
ITINERARY
Our journey begins in Preveza, where we pass the Lefkas Canal. Right on the hour, the swing bridge opens and gives way to the open sea. Our first stop is the breathtaking bay of Varkó – a perfect place for a refreshing swim. In the afternoon we reach Meganissi and spend the night either in a hidden bay or in the charming village of Spartochori, which impresses with its view over the islands.
We set sail south and pass the island of Arkoudi before reaching Fiskardo on Kefalonia. The Venetian-style harbor is one of the most beautiful in the Ionian Sea. There are numerous tavernas and boutiques here that invite you to take a stroll. An early arrival ensures us a good anchorage for the night.
After breakfast, we continue on to Ithaca. We anchor in Polis Bay, where Odysseus’ palace is said to have once stood. A short shore leave takes us to the ruins before we cross the strait between Ithaca and Kefalonia. A highlight of the day is a visit to the Melissani Cave, a mystical stalactite cave with an underground lake.
We circumnavigate the southern tip of Ithaca and anchor in Pera Pigadi Bay, where the famous Arethusa spring is located. We then sail to Kioni, an idyllic harbour town with colorful houses and first-class tavernas right on the water.
Our course today takes us to the untouched Dragonera Islands and on via Kastos to Kalamos. The hidden bay of Porto Leone is our anchorage for the night – a picture-book setting surrounded by crystal-clear water.
A relaxed day of sailing with short distances and plenty of time for swimming in the sheltered bays of Meganissi. The island offers some of the most beautiful anchorages in Greece, perfect for a peaceful end to the day.
On the way back to Preveza, we make a final stop in the beautiful Varkó Bay. After an extensive swimming break, we set sail for the last leg through the Lefkas Channel back to our home port.
